Center for Organization Research and Design (CORD)
The mission of CORD is to promote, support and conduct high impact, use-inspired organization design research. CORD is focused on the context of knowledge and science-intensive social enterprises, and on transcending the boundaries between sectors, policies, institutions, organizations and individuals.
The work of the Center for Organization Research and Design (CORD) falls into the following categories:
Human capital is a core facet of STEM development and progress. CORD examines key dynamics necessary for building and developing a productive, diverse and stable STEM workforce. Moreover, we examine how public policy can influence the institutions and processes responsible for shaping such dynamics.
Technology transfer acts as a key mechanism for connecting various sectors with interests in STEM innovation and entrepreneurship. CORD conducts research on the organizational, policy and individual barriers and facilitators of technology transfer, particularly in the context of commercializing knowledge and products created by STEM academics.
Higher education is a critical social enterprise that is slow to adapt to change. CORD performs interdisciplinary research on the design of higher education actors and institutions. Our research highlights how the design of higher education institutions shape the public value of performance outcomes.
Public sector management requires the simultaneous consideration of executing policies designed to meet public welfare while operating under unique constraints. CORD examines the drivers and outcomes of individual managerial behavior, managerial practices and organizational dynamics and how they influence public sector missions.
As more attention is being given to the intricacies in achieving environmental sustainability, organizations and regulatory bodies must consider the effectiveness of policies in meeting that goal. CORD performs research evaluating the comprehensive formation and effects of environmental policies in multiple stakeholder groups.
