Experimental Lab

Our lab aims to:

  • Identify “what works” in organizational design through experimentation

  • Generate actionable recommendations for leaders of public-serving organizations

  • Promote the use of experimentation in public management research by providing resources on the “how to” of conduct social science experiments.

How we do experiments

Field experiments

We conduct experiments in the field with organizations in real time. Current field experiments include leadership development interventions and communication campaigns.

Survey experiments

We embed experiments in surveys to study people’s attitudes, attributions, and behaviors. For a recent example see how survey experiments can be used to gauge how people evaluate the performance of male and female managers.

Natural experiments

We leverage experiments that unfold in naturally occurring settings. See for example our recent study comparing twins to study the origins of prosocial motivation.
