Toshi H. Arimura

Toshi H. Arimura is a professor of environmental economics in the Faculty of Political Science and Economics at Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan. He also serves as the director of the Research Institute for Environmental Economics and Management at Waseda University. His research interests encompass climate change policies, voluntary corporate environmental actions, air pollution issues and the innovation of environmental technology. His recent publication includes his coauthored book,” An Evaluation of Japanese Environmental Regulation: A Quantitative Approach from Environmental Economics” from Springer. He is on the editorial boards of several international academic journals including the Review of Environmental Economics and Policy, Economics of Energy and Environmental Policy, and Environmental Economics and Policy Studies. As a recipient of the Abe Fellowship, Professor Arimura was a visiting scholar with George Mason University and Resources for the Future from 2006 to 2008. He has received SEEPS Young Achievement Award, The Society for Environmental Economics and Policy Studies in Japan and Academic Scholar Award, Sustainable Management Forum of Japan. He has also participated in an international collaborative project at the OECD to examine the effectiveness of voluntary corporate environmental actions. Professor Arimura served as an advisory member of the domestic emission trading subcommittee of the Central Environment Council of Japan’s Ministry of the Environment. He also served as a member of the taskforce group to evaluate the economic impact of 25% emission reduction target under Hatoyama administration in Japan. Professor Arimura received a B.A. from Tokyo University, a M.S. in Environmental Sciences from Tsukuba University, and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Minnesota. He has served as a board member for various academic societies such as the Society for Environmental Economics and Policy Studies or Society of Environmental Science, Japan. Before joining Waseda, he was a professor and the director of Center for the Environment and Trade Research at Sophia University.
