Thomas Heinze is Professor of Organizational Sociology at the University of Wuppertal, Germany, where he was Dean of the School of Human and Social Sciences between 2012 and 2016, and where he currently is Deputy Director of the Institute of Sociology. His latest publication is: "Innovation in Science and Organizational Renewal. Historical and Sociological Perspectives" (Palgrave, 2016). His research interests include institutional conditions for scientific creativity and research breakthroughs, public research organizations, research evaluation, theories of institutional change, and organizational theory. He is principal investigator of research projects funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), including one that deals with how institutional context shapes the growth of new research fields in public research universities and National Laboratories in the United States and Germany; another one deals with the emergence and growth of quantitative research assessment as a new professional field.
