At least two decades of research show that new knowledge is a critical component of economic and social development. Recent comprehensive reviews of the technology transfer literature conceptualize university technology transfer in terms of a patent-centric linear model—formal technology transfer—including technology disclosure, patent filing, and licensing. This paradigm not only overlooks a diversity of practices by technology transfer offices, it also neglects other innovative practices or conceptualizations relating to the creation and exchange of new knowledge.
To address the aforementioned gaps, the 2016 T2S Annual meeting will focus on alternative practices, policies, and conceptualizations of knowledge exchange that go beyond formal university technology transfer. We are especially interested in empirical works that utilize frameworks and methodologies from a variety of disciplines and that utilize a variety of perspectives.
In addition to the primary conference theme, we also welcome contributions relating to the following areas:
Bradley, S., Hayter, C.S., Link, A.N. (2013). Methods of University Technology Transfer, Foundations and Trends in Entrepreneurship, Vol. 9: No. 6, pp 571-650.
See Link, A.N., Siegel, D., Bozeman, B. (2007). An empirical analysis of the propensity of academics to engage in informal university technology transfer, Industrial and Corporate Change, 16(4): 641-655.
Those wishing to organize or chair a session on the above topics should submit a 1-2 page proposal, including the title of the session, brief description, name, affiliation and email address of the chair.
Individuals wishing to present a paper that fits the conference theme or the areas noted above should submit an abstract that includes the title of their paper, up to 300-500 word abstract, as well as the name, affiliation, and email address of the presenter.
Proposals and abstracts should be submitted no later than July 1st, 2016. Authors and chairs will be notified not later than August 1st, 2016 if their paper/session is accepted.
Based on abstract reviews, selected authors will be invited to submit a complete manuscript in consideration a special issue of the Journal of Technology Transfer on the conference topic. Invited authors will also be notified by August 1st, 2016; completed manuscripts will be due October 15th, 2016.

We are exploring interest among attendees for a visit to the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. The gardens serve as a cultural icon for the region, showcasing native plant varieties in a well-designed park setting. It is a favorite local destination and well worth your time.
The proposed visit would take place on Thursday, November 3rd and take approximately two and half to three hours, including a 15-20 minute (one-way) chartered bus ride to the gardens. Depending on interest, the cost of the garden visit (including transportation) would be approximately $40 per person.
Please indicate your interest in attending the garden in the conference submission form. Once we confirm that we have enough interest for the trip, we will ask that you purchase your trip tickets on the registration website.
