Sally Randles

Dr Sally Randles is Senior Research Fellow at the University Of Manchester Institute Of Innovation Research. Her current research focuses on responsible innovation highlighting implications for policy, governance and society. As Principal Investigator for the University of Manchester on the (2009) FP7, NANOPLAT project she was WP leader researching value chains in nano-consumer products and distributed governance, and collaborated with the National Institute for Consumer Research (SIFO) on the Norwegian Research Council funded project NANOCONSUMER (2008) and for the Canadian Research Council on geographies of nanotechnology implications for cluster policy: the case of Manchester (2008). She is co-PI for Univ. Manchester on the current 3 year FP7 project RES-AGORA tasked with producing a socio-normative governance framework for Responsible Research and Innovation for Europe and leads the empirical WP3 for that project. Previous posts include Principal Economic Development Officer within regional government in the UK; Survey Officer and author for the UK Consumers’ Association publishers of ‘Which?’ magazine; and Research Executive undertaking social and market research for blue-chip companies and London based advertising agencies. Over the last 6 months she has been invited to give lectures at Arizona State University, USA and at the International Symposium on Responsible Innovation at the University of Osaka, Japan on the Institutionalisation of Responsible Innovation. Sally holds a BSc in Management Sciences from Lancaster University, an MBA, and a PhD from the University of Manchester in urban economic geography and political economy.
