Agnes Akkerman

Agnes Akkerman is Associate Professor of Sociology of Industrial and Labor Relations at the VU University Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Associate Professor of Political Science at the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the Interuniversity Center for Social Science, Theory and Methodology (ICS) at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands in 2000. She previously was Grotius Research Fellow at the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands and was vice-executive director of the Faculty of Law at Radboud University Nijmegen. She is presently theprincipal investigator of two major research projects funded by the Dutch National Science Foundation: Contagious Conflict and The Social Consequences of Strikes. In 2011 she was a visiting fellow of the Industrial and Labor Relations School of Cornell University, Ithaca, New York.

Her research interests include public management, inter-organizational networks, public sector performance, organizational learning; collective decision-making, industrial and employment relations; co-determination in employment relations; protest mobilization and repression, systems for conflict resolution and mediation. She publishes in journals of Public Administration, Industrial Relations, Sociology, Political Science and Human Resource Management. She is member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory and the American Review of Public Administration. She is the winner of the 2012 ‘Kooiman Award’, of the International Research Society for Public Management (IRSPM) for the best article published in Public Management Review in 2011. (with R.
